Sundas Naqvi

Sundas Naqvi is a Chicago-based jazz and folk vocalist, songwriter, and occasional vocal coach whose work is grounded in storytelling and genuine connection. From intimate neighborhood cafés to jazz lounges and seasonal festivals, she creates performances that bring together familiar musical traditions and the emotions of everyday life.

Her sound blends the expressive character of jazz with contemporary folk influences, often exploring themes of resilience, family, belonging, and the small moments that stay with us.

From Southern England to Chicago

Born and raised in southern England, Sundas grew up surrounded by music, literature, and the arts. Singing began with school choirs and community performances before developing into a deeper interest in jazz and acoustic folk during her university years.

In her late twenties, Sundas moved to Chicago after meeting her husband. The city’s remarkable musical heritage and welcoming creative community soon gave her a place to develop her own artistic identity and build a life both on and beyond the stage.

Finding Her Voice in Chicago

Chicago became the setting for Sundas Naqvi to establish herself as an independent performer and songwriter. She performs at local jazz lounges, coffeehouses, private gatherings, and community festivals, favoring spaces where music can create an immediate connection between performer and audience.

Alongside performing and songwriting, Sundas occasionally offers private vocal coaching and workshops, helping emerging musicians develop confidence in their voices and discover more authentic ways to tell their own stories.

Creativity with a Community Purpose

For Sundas, music is also a way to give back. She volunteers with youth music education initiatives, contributing beginner vocal sessions and songwriting workshops designed to make creative expression welcoming and accessible.

She particularly enjoys helping young people discover that creativity isn’t about perfection. It’s about curiosity, confidence, and finding something meaningful to say.

Family, Football, and Life Beyond the Stage

Away from music, family is at the center of Sundas’s life. She spends many weekends supporting her son’s passion for soccer and volunteers as an assistant coach for his youth team. She values the confidence, resilience, and teamwork young athletes develop through the sport.

Her quieter interests include exploring Chicago’s historic architecture and neighborhoods, street photography, classic British literature, contemporary fiction, independent coffee shops, and discovering local artists and live music.

Keeping Two Places Close to Heart

Although Chicago is home, Sundas maintains a strong connection with England. Trips back allow her to reconnect with family, lifelong friends, and the places that shaped her early years.

That experience of belonging to more than one place subtly informs her creative perspective—a combination of memory, change, home, and the relationships that endure across distance.

Music as a Point of Connection

At the heart of Sundas Naqvi’s work is a simple belief: music matters most when people recognize something of themselves in it. Whether performing for a lively room or a small café audience, she approaches each song as an opportunity to create an honest shared moment.

For Sundas, a meaningful creative life isn’t measured only by performances. It’s found in the stories exchanged, people encouraged, communities supported, and connections made along the way.
